Two Generations of Spurlins, Doris and Barry.
Michael Dixon was voted in as pastor of Waynesburg Pentecostal Church on August 24, 2008. He comes from a long line of godly men and women, as his father and grandfathers were pentecostal preachers.
Dixon and his wife Tracy came to Lancaster/Stanford in April 2002, when he begun working as a funeral director and embalmer for Spurlin Funeral Home, a position he continues today. Dixon fulfilled a lifelong dream when he graduated from Mid-America College of Funeral Service in Jeffersonville, Indiana in 1998. He returned to his native Harlan County to work for six months before moving on to Northside Funeral Home in Bardstown, where he served for nearly four years.
The Dixons have been married for over 12 years and enjoy serving the Lord together. Both Michael and Tracy are natives of Cumberland, KY in Harlan County.
Harold W. McLaren was born in Stanford, Kentucky. He has been with Spurlin Funeral Home since February 2007. Harold is an ordained Christian church minister, and he and his wife are members of Victory Christian Church in Lancaster, Kentucky. Harold retired from school administration in 1997, having spent 27 years as a school teacher, athletic director, assistant principal, and principal.
On April 8, 1967, Harold married Patsy Wall of Kings Mountain, Kentucky. They have three children: Susan McLaren, a teacher at Garrard County High School. Allissa (Philip) Pendleton, a teacher at Stanford Elementary, and Bradley (Crissy) McLaren (Tool & Die). They have five grandchildren: Hannah, Connor, and Keaton Pendleton, and Karissa and Dylan McLaren. Harold is a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and the American Legion.
John W. Sallee, Jr. has been with Spurlin Funeral Home since December 2006. John is serving his Embalming and Funeral Director Apprenticeship. John is retired from the U. S. Navy. He spent 25 years with the Navy and retired as a Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman. He is a Vietnam Veteran, having served with the First Marine Air Wing in Vietnam. John was employed with Affiliated Computor Service until he moved back to Kentucky in 2003.
John was born in Boyle County and lived in Stanford and Moreland. John married JoBelle Long from Hustonville on November 25, 1960. They have two children, Pamela (Pete) Moody, a hospice nurse living in Crawford, Georgia, and John W. (Terri) Salle, III (BSN RN VA Hospital) of Stanford. They have three grandchildren, James M. (Angela) Jackson, (Detective with Sheriff Department & EMT) of Colbert Georgia, Emily Grace Sallee and John W. Sallee IV of Stanford.
John and Jo are members and Deacons of Stanford Christian Church. John is a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of Fleet Reserve Association and the American Legion.
