Leon Dewayne Hignite, 76, of Lexington, KY passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at U.K. Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. Born September 19, 1941 in Winchester, KY to Ava Puckett Spencer of Winchester, KY and the late Wayne Hignite, he was a retired employee of Square D Inc. where he worked as a tool and die maker for over 40 years, and was a member of the Baptist Faith. He enjoyed karate, hunting & fishing, and drag racing. In addition to his mother, survivors include his son; Jason Hignite (Karen) of Stanford, KY, his daughter; Heather Hignite of Lexington, KY, one sister; Leisel Spencer of Winchester, KY, one brother-in-law; Mike Herald of Lexington, KY, one sister-in-law; Debbie Meurer (John) of Lexington, KY, three step-grandchildren; Ashley Roberts (Patrick), Zach Middleton (Leah), and Preston Middleton (Leigh) all of Stanford, KY, seven step-great-grandchildren, and one nephew; Blake Palmer of Lexington, KY. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother; Randy Spencer. Visitation will be Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford from 5-9pm. Funeral service will be 11am Monday, October 9, 2017 at the funeral home with burial following at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY. Casket bearers will be: Glen Herald, Jason Hignite, Josh Herald, Mike Herald, Zach Middleton, and Rick Allison.
