Betty Ruth Smith, 80, of New Salem, KY passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018 at home. Born February 6, 1938 in Gilpin, KY to the late Lewis William Copley and Ruby Ethel Fair Copley, she was the widow of the late James Frank Smith. She worked as a homemaker, seamstress, and later in life retired from Garrard County Hospital where she worked as a nursing assistant. She was also a member of New Salem Baptist Church. Survivors include her children, Jimmy Smith, Bill Smith, Julia Hogue (Jeff), Patricia Walls (Ronnie), and Jennifer Walls (Brian) all of New Salem, KY; six grandchildren, Natasha Good (Brandon) of Moreland, KY, Darrell Walls (Paige) of New Salem, KY, Emily Weddle (Joey McAlister) of Crab Orchard, KY, Daniel Walls, Katlyn Hogue, and Mary Beth Hogue all of New Salem, KY; three great-grandchildren, Ashton Good, Bryson Good both of Moreland, KY, and Izora Weddle of Crab Orchard, KY; siblings, Peggy VanHook, Shirley Caro (Wayne), Bonnie Smith, Barbara Sims, Brenda Raley, Judy Harris, and Boyd Hoskins (Lela); and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Beth Ann Walls, and one sister, Nancy Yocum. Visitation will be Sunday, April 8, 2018 at New Salem Baptist Church from 5-9pm. Funeral service will be 2pm Monday, April 9, 2018 at the church with Reverend Gary Morris officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery. Casket bearers will be: Darrell Walls, Daniel Walls, Brandon Good, Mike Smith, Phil Hogue, and Johnny Luster. Honorary bearers are: Natasha Good, Emily Weddle, Katlyn Hogue, Mary Beth Hogue, Wess Hogue, Ashton Good, Bryson Good, Izora Weddle, Billy Dean McWhorter, Earl Dean McWhorter, Mary Jo McDonald, and Bonnie Smith.
