James R. Short, 85, of McKinney, KY passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Ephraim McDowell Medical Center in Danville, KY. Born on May 3, 1934 in Garrard County, KY to the late Jessie Short and the late Lillie Mae Davis Short. James did a little bit of everything during his life, he was a “jack of all trades” as well as being a carpenter for most of his life. He was an outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish, and he really enjoyed helping others. He was a member of McKinney Christian Church in McKinney, KY and also a member of the Army National Guard for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Betty Linthicum Short of McKinney, KY; two sons, Tony Short (Kim) of McKinney, KY and Danny Short (Rosanne) of Carlisle, KY; two daughters, Pamela Vanhook (Larry) of Independence, KY and Debbie Short of McKinney, KY; four brothers, Clifford Short of Shelbyville, IN, David Short (Connie) of Lancaster, KY, Johnny Short (Lois) of Harrodsburg, KY and Kenneth Jordan (Margaret) of Lancaster, KY; five sisters, Mary Brussell of Harrodsburg, KY, Margaret Rousey of Lancaster, KY, Opal Short of Lancaster, KY, Shirley Gilbert of Lancaster, KY and Libby Cress (Bill) of Stanford, KY; seven grandchildren, Aubrey, Ryanne, Jamie, Brandon, Justin, Shandra and Dylan; five great-grandchildren, Ali, Erin, Austin, Conrad and Tristen; one great-great grandchild, Jaydalin; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Short; two brothers, Clarman Short and Roy Short; and two sisters, Christine Winkler and Edith Southerland.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY. A funeral will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY with Bro. Greg Starbuck and Bro. Chris Taylor officiating the service. Burial will follow at McKinney Cemetery in McKinney, KY.
Pallbearers will be Jamie, Brandon, Justin, Dylan, Ryanne and Austin.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Aubrey, Shandra, Ali, Erin and Tristen.
