Obituary

Charles Estel Walls, 93 – Geneva, KY, a man of faith, a man of family, and a man of country, completed work on this earth Sunday, December 6, 2020.

Charles was born on January 21, 1927 in Lincoln County, KY to the late Nicie Vanhook Walls Lay and John “Bud” Walls.  Charles served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army in World War II and continued his love for his country with service to the local American Legion Caswell Saufley Post 18 Military Honor Guard.  After the war, Charles was plant manager of the Old Stanford Creamery on Water Street in Stanford.  He and Willene also enjoyed many years of dairy farming in Maywood area of Lincoln County and owned the local Surge Dairy Equipment.  Years later in 1981, Charles felt another call to serve.  He was elected by the people of Lincoln County to be their Jailer.  During his time as jailer, Charles was instrumental in the development of the regional system that is today known as the Lincoln Country Regional Jail.   Charles was honored as a Kentucky Colonel.  He served as Chairperson of Lincoln County Ambulance Board and a was member of the McKinney Water District.

Charles was a member of the McKinney Baptist Church and lived his faith by example.  He shared his Christian faith with an open heart and always sharing his story, including his trials, and blessing of life.  His table was always open to anyone and he never hesitated to speak three simple words to his friends and family…” I love you”.

Charles was preceded in death earlier this year by his wife of 59 years, Willene Davidson Walls.  We are sure she welcomed him with open arms.  Other family members who have preceded in death and welcomed Charles home include two sisters and five brothers: Elmer, Junior, Mary Francis, Joseph T, Lois Walls Collett, Marvin, and John.  Charles was also proceeded by his nephew John Mark Walls and a niece Ewona Jane Walls.

Charles leaves one surviving sister, Ewona (Bob) Robbins, one sister-n-law, MaryAnn Walls Bowman, one niece, Beth (Bill) Taylor and three nephews Bruce (Beth) Robbins, Tim Robbins, and Charlie Walls.

A private service will be held with immediate family on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY.  Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include members of the Caswell Saufley American Legion Post 18.  The service can be viewed on the Spurlin Funeral home Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the American Legion Caswell Saufley Post 18, Stanford, KY.   The family encourages each of you to share the example Charles set, tell someone they are loved.  His infectious smile and love will be missed dearly by all who had the honor to know him.
