Joe Reed

Joe Reed, 70, of Stanford, KY passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, KY. Born on February 7, 1952 in Stanford to the late Walter and Berdine McGuffey Reed. For most of his career, Joe worked for the State Highway Department until his retirement. After his retirement he worked in Transportation for Lincoln County Public Schools as a Bus Driver. He cared deeply about his community and Lincoln and spent countless hours serving the people of Lincoln County and Lincoln County Athletics. He drove a bus for the Lincoln County Girls soccer and basketball teams, was a member of the Chain Crew for Lincoln County Football games for over 20 years. He also enjoyed gardening, mowing and watching Kentucky football and basketball games, and playing golf and cornhole with some of his best friends, Buck Cooper, Larry Walls and Earl Cooper. Joe loved putting out a salt block every year in his back yard and watching the deer.

Survivors include his significant other, Susanne McCollough, of Stanford; two sons, Christopher Reed (Lori) of Danville, KY and Carl James “C.J.” Reed (Courtney) of Lexington, KY; half-sister, Dixie Reed; and one granddaughter, Lily Reed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Berdine Reed.

A one-day service will be on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Nehemiah Wilkinson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Christian Church Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers are Larry Walls, Don Cooper, Buck Cooper, Earl Cooper, C.J. Reed and Chris Reed.

Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. George Swope Munday, Danny Lewis, Jason Hoskins and Ronnie Hester
