Mary Jo Brown, 72, of McKinney, KY passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born June 10, 1947 in McKinney, KY to the late Edward Otis Carpenter and Rebecca Virginia Moore Carpenter, she was a retired employee of Stanford House Nursing Home where she worked 26 years as a dietary manager, and was also a member of Green River Pentecostal Church. Mary Jo loved her family, loved to shop (especially at JC Penney), loved cooking, and reading. She had a servant's heart and was known as "Mammy Jo" by many. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Billy Lee Brown of McKinney, KY; two daughters, Melisa Brandenburg (Jeremiah) of Stanford, KY, and Sharon Jo Allen (Greg) of Nicholasville, KY; two brothers, Lester Carpenter (Linda Sue) of London, KY, and Hershel Carpenter (Alice) of McKinney, KY; three sisters, Wanda Lawson (late Kenneth) of Ohio, Kay Hogue (Thomas) of Willisburg, KY, and Linda Lewis (David) of McKinney, KY; four grandchildren, Zachariah Brandenburg (Shelby), Michaela Brandenburg, Carlee Jo Allen, and Carson Allen; seventeen nieces and nephews; and a host of great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant siblings, Patricia and Donald; and a brother, Garland Carpenter (late Louise). Visitation will be Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Green River Pentecostal Church from 5-9pm. Funeral service will be 11am Monday, February 10, 2020 at the church with Reverends Thomas Hogue, Rick Naylor, and Gary Yocum officiating. Burial will be held at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, KY at a later date with Reverend Lester Carpenter officiating. Active pallbearers will be: Rodney Lawson, Dwayne Lewis, Allen Lewis, Steven Carpenter, Michael Carpenter, and Jerry Wayne Naylor. Honorary bearers are: Tim Carpenter, Brian Carpenter, Eddie “Popcorn” Brown, Dale Walls, Roger Pratt, Kenny Coyle, and Joe Caldwell. Spurlin Funeral Home, Stanford is in charge of the arrangements.
